Ben Grubb lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA. After studying neon and kinetic sculpture at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, he spent several years traveling, traversing the length of the Mississippi River in a canoe and later a raft. He moved from New Orleans to Pittsburgh with several friends to build boats and go down the Ohio River. During that time he got a job at an ornamental metalwork shop and has been welding, shaping, and forming steel ever since, hoarding material found in and around the Allegheny, Monangahela, and Ohio Rivers and local scrapyards, experimenting with sound and light, and working in community, rooted in mutual aid.
